London’s love affair with American Hamburgers is carrying on unabated. This week sees the opening of another cult Californian burger chain, Fatburger in Camden Town. It’s on a side street on the way to Camden Lock, next to a Byron and a diner. As you can see from the image above, they are already all over the world. So how will it fair in the very busy burger restaurant space in London?
On it’s preview day, the whole menu was available for tasting including the offerings from Buffalo’s (for chicken wings).

Fatburger- The one year old reviewer thoroughly approved of the curly fries
The burgers are encased in a glazed, soft brioche bun. We ordered their standard burger with a guacamole topping. The burgers are cooked to about medium, served half wrapped and ready to eat. You can choose a variety of toppings from bacon to guacamole. We were warned that the guacamole had a bit of a zing but it was undetectable.
The meat is not a premade patty but is chilled (not frozen beef) chopped and made into a ball. This ball of meat is then squashed flat on the griddle to cook, resulting in a bit of charring and a lots of texture. It is better than the average high street burger chain as the quality and taste is better. About £6.00 for a basic burger. If you are a bit of a competitive eater, try their 24oz burger. You might be one of the first to get your picture on their empty wall of fame.
For sides, there is a choice of french fries, curly fries and fat fries with the curly fries being the favourites as tested by my one-year-old dining companion. Loved the plump and crispy onions rings.
I was quite excited to try the Buffalo’s wings which some in many many different flavours from coconut jerk to BBQ. The menu shows the heat levels for the flavour that you choose. The chicken wings are highly flavoured, depending on the flavour you choose and is served in basket like below, quite a big portion. For kids, they have fried chicken pieces which comes with a dipping sauce.
Drinks wise, besides the usual soft drinks, they have an Oreo shake but we didn’t get to try it.
All the meat in Fatburger’s burgers are halal certified
This I think is a genius USP. Here is their halal certification as all the meat and chicken they serve is certified halal.
If you are a fan of American burger restaurants, rock along to Camden and check out Fatburgers. I can see another trip in the near future to try the different flavours of wings on that menu.
