Cooking lower calorie meals with the Tefal Actifry Express XL

I’ve always wondered how the Tefal Actifry cooks chips. Just a few days ago, I had the chance to try it out.

The Tefal Actify Express XL uses a special technology that enables it to cook food with the use of hot air a little bit oil, resulting in lower calories. They are calling it the as you can eat more of what you love for less calories.

The first thing that I really want to make is chips. The Tefal Actifry can fry a big bowl of chips with just one tablespoon of oil, instead of deep frying. You can see the green measuring spoon below. That is all the oil you need to cook one big serving.

At this launch event for the new Tefal Actifry, Frankie Essex was on hand to tell us more about eating to keep slim.

How to use the Tefal Actifry

You can follow the recipes that are supplied with this appliance or look on their website. There are lots of things you can cook with this besides chips. We cooked a quick teriyaki salmon, chiken tikka masala curry, potato wedges and a very quick spicy chicken wings. There are so many more things you can cook with this Actifry. Just experiment with your favourite recipes and keep an eye on the timings.

We cooked a Spanish inspired Egg Tortilla. It took about 25 minutes and it was all done in one pot. Minimal washing up.

How to cook chops in a Tefal Actifry

1. You cut up 1.2kg of potatoes.
2. Dry the cut potatoes in a clean tea towel.You can’t miss this step or you won’t get crispy chips.
3. Place the potatoes in the bowl. Add a sprinkling of salt.
4. Add the oil using the measuring spoon. Close the lid.
5. Turn on the machine as shown. Adjust +/- buttons.
6. The machine will start to heat up and the paddle will start rotating to move the food around as it cooks.
7. It takes abotu 35 – 40 minutes. The machine will beep when the chips are ready.

Per 100g of chips, deep fried 298 calories – Actifry Chips 192

Calories Saved – 106.
