Jamie Oliver’s Big Feastival
A sunny summer’s day, rare in London and what better way than to spend it at a food and music festival.
Our recent Grazing Asia Supperclub collaboration with Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Foundation has strengthened our relationship with JO’s team and we were offered passes for the Big Feastival in Clapham Common. The Big Feastival is the first time that Jamie Oliver and his team have attempted a summer festival. It was a pretty massive undertaking and it was a big success. They sold about 11,000 for Saturday, which was the capacity for the day.
Luckily for the organisers, Mother Nature was kind and clear skies and sunshine reigned through the weekend. The Big Feastival has packed.
The main event was the Big Kitchen Tent where Jamie and his cheffy friends were doing cooking demos and book signings. This tent was mobbed as the crowd fought to get a glimpse of the cheeky chappie himself. It was about 5 deep so it took a while to edge our way into the tent.
We managed to catch one of the cooking demos where Jamie and Gennaro Contaldo were doing their usual cooking/ comedy double act.
There were loads of hot food tents selling their signature dishes and the queues were long at loads of them, especially the bar tents.
Lots of family fun to be had at the Big Feastival with carousels and rides for the kids.
After Gizzi’s cooking demo, she decamped to this old ice cream van outside the tent to sign her latest book, Gizzi’s Kitchen Magic.
To end the day, we joined the frenzied crowd at the main stage to watch the Charlatans on the main stage. Such fun. Roll on next summer til the next Big Feastival.
