My Sunday Photo: Aspendos Theatre in Antalya
Aspendos (Ancient Pamphylia) is the best examples of Roman Theatres still existing today. It has been around for 2000 years and amazingly, it is still in use. It is open as a museum and is used for weddings photos.
Aspendos is on the Acropolis of Pamphylia, the land of tribes. It was then a thriving city and settled with people from Anatolia, around 133 BC. It was a prosperous city and during the Roman period, 3 big city gates were built and monumental buildings were added. Aquaducts, fountains and the Basilica were added in the second century. Much of the ruins in the Upper City of Aspendos is from this time period. Much like the nearby Ancient City of Perge.
Wow, how beautiful. My husband would love to visit there as he is a big fan of Roman history. Great capture. #mysundayphoto
