Tasting Lisa McGuigan Wines at Gaucho club
Argentinian steaks and a few bottles of Australian reds make for a great night out. Lisa McGuigan wines hosted a tasting at the Gaucho Club recently to introduce her wines in conjunction with London Wine Week. Lisa, a fourth generation winemaker from the Hunter Valley, was on hand to tell us her story of how she built up her wine business.
Lisa McGuigan Wines
Lisa McGuigan is an unusual, daring and mischievous Australian winemaker. She doesn’t own vineyards but has a stake in a winery. Her wine business is relatively new but she has gained some traction in supplying some European outlets and features on Jetstar and Qantas.
Lisa’s aim is to deliver a stylish wine made from choice varietals from South Australia. Having a share in a winery allows her to experiment with many different blends that are not limited by
One of the success factors of her label is that Lisa is ace at marketing. Everything from the distinctive silver cross on the bottles to the names of the wines have been carefully thought out and planned. Bringing her plucky Aussie approach to marketing her wines at trade shows in Europe have gained her some valuable contracts and has fuelled the expansion of the wines she produces.
At this dinner, the Gaucho Club served a tasting menu paired with some of Lisa’s wines, some of which will be sold in the UK. The two lines that she has are the Wilde Thing and the Silver. Wilde Thing offers a blended Chardonnay Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Shiraz, whilst the Silver collection houses a Chardonnay and Shiraz
