Sake Poached Pears
A simple and impressive dessert recipe with a twist, using sake instead of wine. For a dinner party, you can prepare the pears well in advanced and it will be ready to serve when you want.
Servings: 4 servings
- pears peeled
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 1 cinnamon steak
- zest of one orange
- vanilla extract optional
- some honey for drizzling
- some organic full fat yoghurt
Put the liquids in a pot and bring to boil.
Put in the peeled pears and simmer for about 15 - 20 minutes, depending on the ripeness.
When ready, remove carefully and set aside to cool.
With the remaining liquid in the pot, heat on high to reduce the liquid to a syrup.
To serve place a spoonful of yoghurt sweetened with honey.
Place pear on top, add one spoonful of syrup and zest some orange on top, drizzle some more honey on top.
Serve and enjoy with a glass of dessert wine or sparkling sake.
Try and use the firmer pears as they won't get too soft after poaching.
You can use any alternative spices in the poaching process.
An alternative serving suggestion is to serve it with some ice cream or creme anglais. It works well with something creamy.
