An Elegant Champagne Afternoon at Grosvenor House Hotel
If you are looking for an elegant luxury Afternoon Tea in London with bottomless Champagne, the Grosvenor House Afternoon Tea is the one.

As you step off the very busy Park Lane into the oasis of calmness that is the Park Room at the Grosvenor House Hotel. The elegant dining room was very busy. Strains of live music is drifting in from the adjoining room, serenading the patrons. Afternoon Tea service is in full swing. Pots of tea and flutes of champagne are being enjoyed in the relaxed atmosphere. There are no hen parties in costumes in this dining room.
We are seated comfortably in our velvet covered banquette seats in the corner ready to enjoy our luxury afternoon tea experience. The linen draped tables are set with pretty bone china crockery and crystal champagne glasses. The lovely cheerful Beatriz poured us the first of many glasses of Roederer Champagne into crystal champagne flutes which was kept topped up.
An unexpected amuse bouche arrived first, a shot glass of fruity flavours crowned with a cloud of candy floss. We knew then that tea was going to be something special.

The Grosvenor House Afternoon Tea menu also includes an extensive fine tea menu. The one that is recommended is a bespoke yellow rose bud tea. It is at once perfumed and yet mellow. Quite a unique flavour. As I am a big fan of trying out different tea flavours, I sampled their robust breakfast tea blend and a fragrant Darjeeling.
The tower of cakes, scones and pastries arrived. The top tier is their cheeky Royal Wedding tribute, with an engagement ring in the form of a chocolate biscuit, a “red haired” patisserie and a banoffee pie crown. All beautifully executed and delicious.
Savoury bites of open sandwiches filled with egg mayonnaise and smoked salmon. Finger sandwiches filled with ham, cheese and cucumber is served too. Sandwiches and scones are refillable on request.
Light buttery homemade scones filled the middle tier. Some plain and some with fruit, served with home made jams and clotted cream hit the perfect note. The next table who had a gluten free version declared that theirs was very good too.
The bottomless champagne continued to flow but only a few crumbs remained on our dainty Wedgewood tea plates. Beatriz is trying to coax us into more scones and sandwiches. Afternoon Tea at the Grosvenor House was such a lovely experience, fabulous champagne, great cakes and scones, delightful service.
As we were preparing to leave, we were urged to choose a piece of cake to take home, a choice of chocolate, Victoria sponge or lemon drizzle. I enjoyed the lemon drizzle for breakfast the next morning.
The Afternoon Tea at the Grosvenor House London is just like how an elegant luxury afternoon tea should be. With one of the rare bottomless champagne offerings in town, what’s not to love.
