Winchester, once the capital of Ancient England, is today is vibrant City with lots of independent businesses, innovative food and drink producers and art. The City is rich with history, with King Alfred in the centre of the most important story, the formation of England. Jane Austen fans can follow the Jane Austen Trail to follow her story through Winchester and Hampshire.

The Wigmore Tavern on Upper Regent Street serves very good food and reasonably priced. On the drinks menu, lots of craft beers, gin punches, hoptails, cocktails and wines on tap. A nice buzzy atmosphere and one that will be much emulated.
