Smith and Whistle Cocktail Bar at the Park Lane Hotel
Mayfair has many little jewels that are not on everyone’s usual going out list. Step away from the crowded West End and take a breather from the uber hip Shoreditch and try out this new bar in the Park Lane Hotel instead.
Smith and Whistle is the new cocktail bar in Mayfair, newly rebuilt at the front of the Park Lane Hotel. Named after 2 fictional characters, Detective Inspector Smith and the villain, the dastardly Mr William Whistle. This theme is repeated on the menus which are designed to look like vintage books.
The room in dominated by a long bar behind where they have some home made infusions and unusual syrups, like the pork scratching one which is used in the cocktail below.
The talented mixologists serve up some other unusual cocktails like this smokey one- The Boiler Cocktail with Absolut Vodka infused with aubergine, tomato juice, homemade spice, lemon juice, clove smoke. If cocktails are not your thing, they have some great craft beers on tap and their wine menu extends to a selection of Sparkling English wines from Chapel Down.
The location is perfect for the locals as there aren’t many bars down this end of Picadilly. They will soon be adding some seats on the terrace which will surely be a great attraction to all the visitors to Green Park or walking back from buying their souvenir t-shirt from the Hard Rock Cafe nearby.
The food menu at the Smith and Whistle is British with a twist. They will have the usual fish and chips but some more innovative European flavours will be on the menu too.
