Kua Aina’s Fab Lava Grill Burgers
Not sure how I have not heard of the luscious burgers here. Kua Aina is an American grill serving burgers, hot dogs and all that goes with it at their Hawaiian themed restaurants.
Kua Aina was started by a mainlander in Hawaii. Frank visited the Islands when he was in college, fell in love and never left. His one restaurant is now a chain over there and 2 London entrepreneurs have now brought it to London. The first branch in Fitzrovia is a colourful space, dominated by a tropical themed cocktail bar. The super friendly and smiley staff serve up some killer cocktails like this mango daiquiri.
Their USP is the Lava Grill.Fueled by air flown lava rocks which heat up to about 300°C gives the burgers and meats a lovely char. The restaurant manager Richard is in charge of sourcing. The meat for the burgers are carefully sourced from a British farm and they use grass fed beef. I totally approve.
The meat patties are not seasoned prior to cooking but while on the grill they use a combination of their secret spice mix and a white wine spray to add flavour. The result if a very juicy , plump burger with a nice beefy flavour. Easily one of the best burgers I have had in London.
To go with that, they have some home made onion rings, french fries and sweet potato fries.
If burgers are not your thing, they do have a posh fish finger which is actually a very well done breaded and fried Mahi Mahi. Loved this too. The menu is mainly a choice of different sandwiches, like the tuna melt. The London menu has been expanded to fit the local clientele with the addition of more starters and puddings.
We were there for a group event so didn’t really sample the menu as it normally is served but had a taste of what’s on the menu. Below are some of the pictures I managed to catch of dishes that they serve.
For pudding, chocolate brownies, a very English apple crumble and a very tropical eton mess.
