Paddington Afternoon Tea at the Mandarin Oriental
The Roseberry Room at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Knightsbridge is a beautiful space with high ceilings, furniture beautifully upholstered wiht lime green velvet and accents, with a commanding fireplace and large picture windows overlooking Harvey Nichols and Sloane Street.
We were there to sample their new Paddington Afternoon Tea, in celebration of the new Paddington Movie. It looks like London has really been hit by Paddington fever. You might have seen all the Paddington Bears around London along the #PaddingtonTrail. There is one in the lobby of the hotel too.
At the Roseberry, there are a choice of 2 Afternoon teas, the Paddington Tea and the Regular Afternoon tea menu. Both come with an optional glass of Champagne.
Here is the selection of sandwiches :
Slow roast Norfolk Bronze Turkey with sage and cranberry, smoked salmon tartar, Cotswold egg and mustard cress, Goats cheese with roast pumpkin and red onion confit, Portland crab and crayfish fondue on brioche, Wiltshire cured ham and air dried tomatores.
Some special patisseries were made for the Paddington Tea as seen here with Paddington’s red hat too. Notice the cute little bear footprints on the “Find My Teddy” Brownies which has banana and passion fruit flavours. “Pack your suitcase” is a chocolate sable biscuits with cinnamon and pepper, the glass is Paddington’s Marmalade Pot which has saffron, honey and pear. Next is the Maple Hot Bun with Paddington’s red hat, it’s actually chou pastry with a sesame seed crumble. Not forgetting the jam sandwich, whcih has orange, candy ginger and Chantilly.
The patisseries for the regluar afternoon tea were quite different but just as luscious. My favourite was the green tea eclair on this plate. The others are Milk chocolate passion fruit tart and a pistachio pyramid.
For some seasonal favourites, there were some little mince pies, a lemon drizzle cake, a carrot cake and stollen.
Not forgetting the essential scones, they have cranberry and plains scones with lemon curd, rose jam and a strawberry jam, served with clotted cream of course. The scones were just the right size and were baked very well, a light texture.
The service at The Roseberry was superb throughout. Our lovely waiter Guillame here was offering us some chocolate truffles at the end.
The teas are supplied by the East India Tea Company. You can choose from their regular tea menu which has Breakfast, Afternoon or Director’s Blend. Alternatively, you can choose from their premium bespoke tea selection which includes
They have a resident Tea Master who can advice you on how to pick the right tea to suit your mood.
If you are looking for somewhere elegant and sophisticated to take someone for Afternoon Tea, The Roseberry would be a superb choice. They even do a menu for children too. In the evening, The Roseberry transforms itself into a Champagne Bar and on some evenings, they have live jazz too.
