Gran Anfi Luxury Resort Gran Canaria
I recently spent a fun filled long weekend in Gran Canaria. Where we stayed, the Gran Canaria Resort, was a long way off from the all inclusive package tour hotels that the other passengers on our plane seemed to be heading to. If you have never been to Gran Canaria, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Gran Anfi is part of the Anfi Del Mar luxury time share resort on the South Coast of Gran Canaria. Time Share is not something we hear much about these days. When they started over 20 years ago, building the first big resort at the Southern coast of Gran Canaria, it was an immediate hit with the Scandinavian crowd.
In the 80s, Norwegian Industrialist, Bjorn Lyng bought a piece of rock on the South West of Gran Canaria and built the first of the Anfi Resorts here. The resort was the first to be designed sympathetically with the local geology. The colours blended with the dramatic backdrop of cliffs along this stretch of the coast. He left his mark here as he built a heart shaped island for his wife.
Anfi Del Mar is made up of a few different resorts along the same stretch of coastline. They all share resources. Residents or members have access to all different pools, the nightly entertainment, the gym and more. It is a sprawling complex and is really like a little village with everything you need like within a short walk.
You can spend a week at the Anfi Del Mar and just sit by the pool or swim in the sea. In case you feel like doing other things, there are lots of water sports on Anfi Beach, go to the gym, play a round of golf or go on a boat trip. You can take the ferry bus from Anfi Beach down to Mogan for lunch, a pretty village further down the coast with good seafood restaurants.
The Apartments at Gran Anfi Gran Canaria
I stayed in a very spacious one bedroom apartment in Gran Anfi. It’s probably bigger than most one bed flats in London. The open plan kitchens are very well equipped with all the kitchen machines and utensils you need if you wanted to cook. Besides the large bathrooms with a walk in shower, every apartment has a corner jacuzzzi in the bedroom.
The living area has comfy sofas, a dining table and large screen TVs with programmes in mutiple languages. There are ceiling fans and air conditioning in all the apartments, to make it suitable for all seasons.
All the apartments have a sea view and massive balconies. There are dining tables and sun loungers on the balconies if you wanted to relax in your own apartment instead of being by the pool. It’s perfect for breakfast or a sun downer facing the sunset.
There are restaurants dotted around the resort and Moana on the Love Island is a lovely Al Fresco dining space that is open all day. They also have a beach club and private cabanas where you can sun bathe and watch the action along the beach. At night the open air bar gets quite lively.
All the accommodation in Anfi are self-catering apartments. Some of the guests have been coming here for decades. Today, their children are holidaying here with their children.
Owning a Time Share at Anfi Del Mar
At the time of writing, to own a one bedroom apartment, on a time share basis, for one week in one of the top apartment blocks for 30 years costs just €13,000. Of course, the cost for a week differs depending on the time of year that you buy. High season weeks will cost you more than low season.
Is it worth owning a time share?
When you discount back the cost of your time share over those years, it is a bargain for a luxury holiday. The Anfi Group also has the rating which allows you to swap your week for another resort in the time share family anywhere in the world. You can swap your week in the sun for a week in the snow at another time share resort in the scheme. This means that you don’t have to holiday at the same time share resort every year.
Members who own a time share here have been coming here year after year. They love it because of the familiarity, the high quality luxury accommodation has everything you need and the weather is just perfect all year round. Most of the staff working at the resort have been working here for many years, so members are greeted by familiar faces every year. I met a Norwegian family recently who actually own a place in Club Anfi and their family have been going there for the last 10 years and love it.
Owning a time share is like part owning real estate or any other asset. There is resale market if you decide to not holiday there again. As with any other investments, the value of your asset will depend on the demand and other factors.
We stayed at the Gran Anfi resort. Waking up to clear blue skies, calm seas and endless horizons. All the balconies are enormous with enough space for a dining table and lounge chairs.
Day Excursions from the Anfi Resort
This summer, Anfi has launched a host of excursions if you can drag yourself away from the sunbed and the pool. We went for a picnic trip on a Sunseeker along the coast to Mogan. We then went on a day trip to the Maspalomas Sand Dunes, wandered around Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, saw an old volcano crater and had a fab lunch in a charming Gran Canarian fishing village, Puerto De Las Nieves. Along the way, our amazing guide, Lucia, regaled us with colourful tales of ancient Gran Canaria.
On another day trip, we visited a couple of weekend markets in the North of the Island. You can explore the island yourself, just rent a car and follow the main highway up north.
Golfing on Gran Canaria at Anfi Tauro
Anfi Tauro is the newest addition to the Anfi family. Their newest resort is built further along the coastline. It has an 18 hole of championship golf course and a par 3 course. The guests are mostly couples and there are hardly any children.
The course is set against this stunning backdrop. I managed to fit in 9 holes with Esther who works for Anfi Tauro. Read more golfing at Anfi Tauro Golf here. Members staying at the other Anfi resorts can play at the course for an off season rate of €50 for the green fees. Regular shuttles run between the Anfi resorts and Anfi Tauro, so you can spend your day at the pool here too.
All the apartments overlook the golf course. THis is the view from the Penthouse suite, which incidentally, as an open air hot tub that is not overlooked by anyone.
In addition, there are a lot of luxury villas lining the edges of the golf course. A beach club and a new sandy beach is being created on the beach front.
Private Luxury Villas in Anfi Tauro
If you don’t want to stay in the new apartment block, the other option is a private luxury villa. These have been built along the side of the golf course and they all have private swimming pools. All the villas are designed to a high standard and is equipped with all the mod cons.
