Places to stay in Richmond

Richmond is a great place for a staycation. Just a short train ride from Central London, but it feels like you are in the countryside.

The Bingham Riverhouse is a restaurant with rooms on the banks of the river in Richmond, Surrey. Small and perfectly formed. This newly refurbished boutique hotel in Richmond is conveniently located on the most scenic stretch of the Thames. They have kept a lot of little reminders of its literary past with stacks of books on windowsills, shelves of penguin books used as decoration and rooms named after literary characters. The hotel used to be two separate Georgian houses, now combined. Some of the people that have spent time here

There are 15 individually designed rooms with ensuite bathrooms. The new design is relaxed and homely with some contemporary touches. Some of the bedrooms makes the most of the view with tall french windows over looking the river, unfortunately mine did not have a river view. There are 3 dining options, the parlour, dining room and library, all with access to the balcony for a table with a view.

With its great location, they are a very popular venue for staycations, for weddings and other events.

The food at the Bingham is quite superb. See the Bingham restaurant review for details.

Bingham Riverhouse Hotel Review

I stayed a night in a deluxe room with an ensuite shower room. there were a couple of big sash windows, facing the road and not the river unfortunately. However, I did sleep very well on the Naturalmat hand made ehtically sourced organic mattress.

My yoga test: the room was spacious enough to lay down my yoga mat to do some in room yoga too.

The toiletries are by La Eva, an organic Oxfordshire brand, and they are just fabulous. Made with a high content of essential oils in very aromatic blends, it’s a new brand that I am really glad to have found. It reminds me of the COMO Shambala brand of products (found at the Metropolitan Hotel) and is equal in quality.

You can wrap yourself in one of the fluffy robes, smelling of the lovely La Eva body lotion, make a cup of tea with the in room facilities and lounge on the bed, channel surfing on the wide screen TV. A desk/dressing table was welcomed, especially if you need to catch up on some work.

Breakfast in the morning is in their bright sunlit parlour. Comprising of a buffet of yoghurt, fruits, cereal, crumpets, toast and drinks with the addition of cooked options to order. Using carefully sourced products, the quality of full English breakfast was just superb., even though they didn’t get their delivery of sausages that day.

Guests of the Bingham can use the nearby eco-wellbeing space, Bhuti, which offers fitness and yoga classes. It is lovely touch which I only found out about after watching the video in the room. The front desk didn’t mention this.
